Emerging Leader Professional Development Program - Group Learning Format

Description

The Emerging Leader Professional Development Program is a leadership development course for early career doctors interested in enhancing their leadership knowledge and skills. The program is designed to support early career doctors to develop skills and strategies for enacting effective leadership in their everyday work, as well as preparing them to step into leadership positions in the future. 

The program is modular in design and is delivered in a small group format over several sessions via both interactive webinars/tutorials and self-paced on-line learning, including video tutorials, readings and reflective learning activities. In total the program delivers 20.5 hours of leadership education.

The duration of the program ranges from 4–6 weeks depending on the intake.

 

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     


Learning Outcomes

  1. Understand of the leadership work attached to their role(s) in complex and collaborative healthcare contexts
  2. Understand the importance of self-awareness, self-knowledge, and personal values to authentic and effective leadership
  3. Develop strong fundamental skill in effective communication for interpersonal and team environments 
  4. Understand the importance of psychological safety for high-performing diverse teams
  5. Understand how to set up strong teams and organisational culture – including structures and processes for teams and how they work and communicate
  6. Understand the importance of open and honest professional conversation in establishing a learning culture and develop skills for effective feedback conversations
  7. Develop greater understanding and skills in managing difficult professional conversations and conflict
  8. Understand the importance of strong professional relationships and professional networks, and have identified role models, mentors, and sponsors
  9. Understand effective leadership for navigating change and working effectively in constantly changing environments
  10. Understand the importance of self-care and wellbeing and practical skills for ensuring balance and sustainability in work and life
  11. Build greater confidence in their leadership skills and leadership identity, understand how to manage self-doubt, stress, and anxiety and how to use gratitude and self-compassion effectively
  12. Understand how to ensure sustainable behavioural change using personalised goal setting, SMART actions, and realistic timelines.

Program are delivered in a an interactive small group format via zoom.  Times quoted are Eastern Standard Time and can be engaged in from anywhere in Australia and Overseas.

  • Module 1 and 2: Saturday 19 October 8.45am-2.30pm
  • Live Tutorial: Wednesday 30 October, 6.30pm-8pm
  • Module 3: Wednesday 6 November, 6.30pm-9pm
  • Module 4: Wednesday 13 November, 8.45 am - 2.30pm

Intake 1 - 2025

  • Module 1 & 2: Saturday 17 May 9.30am – 12pm and 1pm – 3.30pm
  • Module 3: Tuesday 25 May, 6.30pm – 9pm
  • Module 4: Tuesday 3 June, 6.30pm – 9 pm(Option to book a follow-up coaching session 1 month after)

  • Module 1: Wednesday October 8, 6:30pm – 9pm
  • Module 2: Wednesday October 15, 6:30pm – 9pm

  • Effective leadership skills and practices for collaborative environments, including

  • Communication skills for interpersonal and team environments
  • Establishing psychological safety, trust, and rapport in teams 
  • Leading effective meetings and discussions
  • Giving and receiving effective feedback
