CCIM 2026

Creative Careers in Medicine (CCIM) is a community for doctors interested in the many directions a medical career can take. Our annual conference, Metamorphosis, returns this year on Friday & Saturday 4–5 September at the QT Hotel Gold Coast: an invitation to shed old expectations, challenge inherited narratives, and step into what’s next.
Whether you’re early in your career and curious about what’s possible, or further along and ready for something new, CCIM exists to connect, inspire, and support doctors navigating change. The conference is designed to meet you wherever you are, whether you’re considering your first pivot, building something new alongside your clinical work, or simply looking for proof that there are other ways to do this.
Across two days, you’ll hear from doctors who have built portfolio careers, stepped into leadership, founded businesses, and moved into research, education, advocacy, and beyond. Sessions span the full breadth of what a medical career can look like: from genomics and longevity to sports medicine, from financial independence to personal branding, from clinical innovation to creative writing. There are practical workshops, honest keynotes, and conversations that go well beyond the traditional professional development format.
Speakers include Dr Graham Walker, San Francisco-based emergency physician, software developer, and creator of MDCalc; Dr Dinesh Palipana, Queensland Australian of the Year and emergency physician; Dr Nat Thurtle, Emergency Physician and Medecins Sans Frontieres doctor; Dr Ian Hosegood, Executive Manager Safety and Health at the Qantas Group; and many more clinicians, founders, and leaders who have shaped careers on their own terms.
The full program runs across three concurrent streams: Ignite, Inspire, and Invigorate, so you can build a schedule that fits what you’re looking for. Friday evening brings a fun networking party, and throughout the weekend you’ll find yourself alongside doctors who get it: people who are curious, restless, and serious about building something that lasts.
CCIM conferences have always been about more than professional development in the traditional sense. They’re about permission: permission to want more, to do things differently, and to imagine a career that fits who you are, not just the path you were trained for. Metamorphosis carries that spirit forward.
