FAQs

Transferring to CPD Home from a specialist college?

Are you wanting to transfer to the AMA’s CPD Home but have been part of a specialist college and are unsure of what you can and can’t do?

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) we have received from specialists, plus some answers!

Q: If I transfer from a specialist college, can I bring my CPD records across?

Yes, you can. There are absolutely no barriers to change your CPD home from a specialist college to AMA’s CPD Home – either now or in the future.

The simplest way is to subscribe to the service via our website. Your account will be activated immediately.

You will then need to transfer your records from your college to the AMA CPD Home. This will require you to download your records and upload them into our system. It’s a one-time activity. In the future, you can record all new CPD in our system.

AMA’s CPD Home recognises any CPD you undertake that aligns with the CPD Home Program of Learning, especially if it has been accredited by an AMC approved CPD home. You’ll always have the choice to choose relevant learning from any medical education provider that meets your written CPD Plan.

Don't forget to browse our CPD Hub Catalogue listing learning that has been accredited by CPD Home.

Q. Do I lose access to Medicare rebates?

As Medicare rebates are associated with your active specialist registration with Ahpra and your active Medicare provider number, patients will still be able to access MBS items - whether you maintain membership with your specialist college or not.

You will need to complete your CPD requirements under one CPD home to maintain Ahpra registration in the future. The 2023 Registration Standard: Continuing Professional Development is available on the the Medical Board of Australia's (MBA) website here.

Q. If I leave my college, do I lose my specialist status with Ahpra?

Provided you meet the annual requirements of the Registration Standard: Continuing Professional Development, you will not lose your specialty recognition with the Medical Board of Australia.

Retention of the right to use your specialty qualification post-nominals may depend on the policies of your college.
