Papulosquamous disorders: Psoriasis, lichen planus and pityriasis rosea

Description

Unit 1: Psoriasis
This unit provides an in-depth look at the nine types of psoriasis, including plaque, guttate, inverse, palmar-plantar, erythrodermic, pustular, and psoriatic arthritis. Participants will learn to recognize hallmark features such as silvery plaques, guttate lesions, and nail changes. The course explores diagnostic tools like punch biopsies and discusses the implications of psoriatic arthritis. Treatment options range from topical corticosteroids and vitamin D analogues to systemic therapies like methotrexate, biologics, and phototherapy. Practical insights into non-pharmacological measures such as weight management and smoking cessation are also included.

Unit 2: Lichen Planus and Pityriasis Rosea
This unit explores the distinctive characteristics of lichen planus, including its six Ps (planar, purple, polygonal, pruritic, papules, and plaques) and Wickham’s striae. Participants will learn about its variations, such as hypertrophic, bullous, and oral lichen planus, and the need for biopsy in unclear cases. Management strategies include topical corticosteroids, calcineurin inhibitors, and systemic treatments like retinoids or immunosuppressants for severe cases. The unit also covers pityriasis rosea, highlighting its hallmark herald patch, collarette scale, and self-limiting nature. Differential diagnosis includes secondary syphilis, emphasising the importance of accurate assessment to guide treatment and prevent complications.

This course equips healthcare providers with essential tools to diagnose, manage, and support patients with these papulosquamous disorders, enhancing their dermatological expertise.
