Pain Self-Management: CBT Skills in Clinical Practice

Description

This webinar skills training program provides an opportunity for health professionals to learn how to help their patients better manage their chronic or persistent pain problems using self-management strategies that can be tailored to the needs of each patient.

Each program includes seven online sessions of 90 minutes duration conducted on a weekly or fortnightly basis, usually at the end of the working day. In each session you will explore and learn how to apply the specific strategies regularly used in the pain self-management programs both at our Centre and internationally.


Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Identify the key principles underpinning the assessment of chronic pain patients
  2. Use appropriate questioning techniques when assessing chronic pain patients
  3. Explain the multifaceted nature of pain problems to a patient
  4. Engage patients in the case formulation process
  5. Assist patients to determine Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timely (SMART) goals
  6. Design and plan a treatment program based on the case formulation and goal setting
  7. Plan and conduct a series of treatment sessions based on the initial treatment program plan
  8. Plan for maintainance following treatment
  9. Outline a comprehensive case presentation to other health professionals
  10. Discuss the application and integration of CBT skills in your professional practice.

Course delivery method:

The program is delivered online over a series of 7 x 90-minute seminars, making it accessible to all health professionals across both rural and suburban Australia and overseas.
